In 1913 the Austrian tax authorities wrote to Freud querying his low reported income, saying “everyone knows his reputation extends far beyond the frontier of Austria.”
The following is the text of the letter Freud wrote in reply to the Austrian Government:
Professor Freud is very honored at receiving a communication from the government. It is the first time the government has taken any notice of him and he acknowledges it. There is one point in which he cannot agree with the communication: that his reputation extends far beyond the frontier of Austria. It begins at the frontier.

Would Freud have shown an elevation in Scale 4 of the MMPI (psychopathic deviate)? I suspect so.
